Message that allows the driver to feel comfortable driving the car to either his or the car's limits is a plus. If a particular driver dislikes HICAS, then he won't drive as well with it. If another driver likes the feel, then he will benefit from it. To say one is misguided in disliking the HICAS system because some people were able to get a faster slalom time 18 years ago is simplistic.

I don't have the time or energy to go looking for it, but I remember something about one of the pro drivers (Millen?) disliking the feeling, and actually turning faster times with it gone.

If a person doesn't like it, I see nothing wrong with removing the system. It relieves weight and complexity, and eliminates the possibility of failure of a system going on 15 years of service life (on the hydraulic systems).
